Lyrics

Holding My Breath
© 2014 Louise Mosrie

Winter came early
Bitter and gray
Your silence this morning.
Shouted at me all day
You don’t want to talk and
I don’t want to hear.
The past too demanding
The future unclear

I’m holding my breath
Holding what’s left
Hollowed and burned out
The vows that we said
Like a prayer
Whispering please
I can only surrender and
Fall to my knees

When your heart closes down
You can hear the door shut
Feel the cold mingle with
The truth in your gut
All that you wanted
Hangs from a thread
And the stories you tell yourself
Loop endlessly in your head

You’re holding your breath
Holding what’s left
Hollowed and burned out
The vows that we said
Like a prayer
Whispering please
You can only surrender and
Fall to your knees

Today we are here.
Tomorrow it’s done.
These moments will pass with no relief
To the strangers we will become.
Strangers we have become.

We’re holding our breath and
Holding what’s left
Hollowed and burned out
The vows that we said
Say a prayer
Whisper it please
We can only surrender
